J.C. Chavez (2007)
Member Rating:
Y Tu Mamá También star Diego Luna makes his directorial debut with this documentary tracing the life and career of Mexican boxer Julio César Chávez. From his very first bouts to his unforgettable matches against such formidable opponents as Oscar De La Hoya and Kostya Tszyu, Luna's film merges past and present by following the legendary Chavez as he prepares for retirement and begins training son Julio César Chávez, Jr. to carry on the fighting family tradition. It isn't every day that a boy who spent his youth in a boxcar in Mexico rises through the ranks to become a six-time world champion, yet somehow Chávez managed to beat the odds to become one the most respected boxers in the history of the sport. Interviews with the pugilist's family and friends reveal the fascinating details about Chávez's rise from poverty, with an examination of the fighter's questionable association with Mexican president Vicente Fox and an ill-conceived "farewell tour" highlighting how social controversy can be as devastating as even the most solid left hook. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

I have heard of J.C.C. but never really followed so the movie was very interesting although the form in which it was represented i did not really like, it was all mixed. They had some clips that were good and some good cutscenes of some of his fights but they did not really show why he was considered the best. I did like the bonus features more than the movie itself. So if you dont really know about him or you really like him its worth watching.

JC Chavez is a must own for all boxing fans. Diego Luna does a good job in setting the tone by combining music into the fights and story of Chavez. Though it does not touch on all of his personal life it does give good insight on his whole career. From the moment he showed intrest in boxing, to his greatest victory against Taylor, to his financial crises and retirment this movie will give you all. De la Hoya, Bob Arum, Don King, Chavez J.r, to his mother all give their personal insight on JC Chavez's life. There is also a major motion picture in the works based on this film. So to all who loved to watch Chavez you will want this own this one. Julio Cesar Chavez will always be known as El Gran Campion Mexican of all time.
