Just because this series is about tweenage cybernetic assassins, don't expect guns blazing every 5 seconds. This character driven series is a fascinating pseudo soap that unfolds at it's own pace. The animation is terrific and the voice performances are right on the money. Easily one of my favorite animes.
Astounding anime. Young girls dying from abuse or disease are changed into commando/assassins.
Not so much an action thriller as a meditation on both father/daughter relationships and society's attitudes towards children. I've watched this three times and each time find something new.
After watching this I will never look at a young girl carrying a violin case the same again. In the first episode a young girl, Henrietta, is being reprimanded by her handler for loosing control. Standing in a room filled with dead bodies she holds a machine gun to her chest as if it was a teddy bear. You will grow to love these 5 girls (covert pawns of the Italian government) who one minute can be playing with toys and the next taking out a room filled with terrorists without hesitation. This is about relationships and not gratuitous violence, and the stories of these girls will break your heart. The story is told objectively without trying to justify what is happening or depict these children sexually. There is a grey area between the good guys and the bad. This DVD will be going into my collection next to Ghost in the Shell as one of my favorite anime.
