This is Bruce Lee's 1st movie, and you can see the charisma in every frame that he is in. At 10 years old, he was a great actor. This movie is set in 1940's China, and it shows the difficulty of a young child growing up in a cold world. Through all the terrible conditions, there is warmth and people with a sense of honor. It is not a bleak movie, and your kids will enjoy this movie as well. Some characters do get stabbed, and a woman is kidnapped, so this may not be for the very young, but my 13 year old enjoyed this movie. This movie has all the charm of those old movies that used to be made in Hollywood.
