A bored suburban husband finds his affair with a high-school babysitter fast snowballing out of control in this black comedy from first-time screenwriter/director David Ross. Shirley (Katherine Waterston) is a brainy honors student who is always thinking about the future, and works part-time as a babysitter in order to save up for college. Among Shirley's regular charges are spirited youngsters Adam and Mikey, the offspring of respected father Michael (John Leguizamo) and his pretty wife, Gail (Cynthia Nixon). Shirley has always had an innocent crush on Michael, but one night after her regular shift, things take a serious turn when the pair sneaks a furtive kiss. Lately Michael has become noticeably depressed by the suburban routine, longing for the days before family responsibility weighed him down and his wife turned into the typical minivan-driving soccer mom. Shirley's kiss makes Michael feel alive again, and as a result he gives her a substantial tip that night. Before long, however, a fleeting kiss has turned into a full-fledged affair, with Michael and Shirley using the babysitting shifts as cover. When Michael's married friends catch wind of his extramarital exploits, they, too, express the want for a babysitter who is willing to earn a healthy tip. Recognizing the potential for profit in such a situation, Shirley soon assumes the role of teenage madam -- matching up her high-school friends with otherwise upstanding men who have grown bored with married life. Of course, Shirley isn't above skimming a bit of the profits for her college fund, but then again it's only a matter of time before their carefully crafted cover is blown. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

If you are expecting a "female version of Risky Business", this ain't it. This movie does not make light of the subject and I didn't feel like it preached to me either. The characters all have their own faults and all have their own agendas. They aren't out to "get" each other, but they all have reasons for doing what they are doing, that don't have anything to do with sex. I had to watch it twice - there are a lot of little subtleties to the characters, little comments, that I missed the first time through. It's not as salacious or as nasty as the cover art suggests. If you guys are expecting soft porn, you'll be disappointed.

If you can get past the titillating, socially perverse subject matter, you'll find extraordinary performances (yes, yes -- the acting). Katherine Waterston brings out some realistic and intriguing layers of emotional and psychological depth in a character who initially flirts and flits along the balance beam of being a mature child and newborn woman at the same time, but then dives into a dangerous world far beyond innocence. To portray this in a way we can buy into takes a level of talent few actors show. Cynthia Nixon impressively portrays the mother, a woman who is fascinatingly unpleasant to watch, who clings tenaciously to a facade of pleasantries, while her home life and family relations crumble. The story, depraved in premise yet frighteningly plausible, brings about a resolution we can accept, and hope for. Expect more than an offbeat romp through the world of what-if from first-time screenwriter/director David Ross.

This is a very powerful film, based on its subject matter. For people who don't think that this is possible are just in complete denial. I'm actually surprised at the solid acting with this film, as a blockbuster exclusive. The situations faced by an innocent teenager facing the reality of her sexuality and realizing its potential profit is portrayed solidly. The movie also shows something that people lack and based on that, the need that people go into this profession is money. For these girls it meant having sexual fun and being paid for it. To them its 'hey other people are doing it...why not us and make money of it?' And these girls really meant business. It shows love, lust, happiness and scared emotion. The film is amazing in every way... I really enjoyed it an I would highly recommend it. For the guys who are thinking of renting this -- lets just say that the cover of this movie does not disappoint - What a beautiful sight to see!
