The 4th star is for the extras contained on this disc. "Doris Day Today" is one of those television variety specials that were ubiquitous on network television from the 1950s well into the 1970s: big-name star, guests, music, comedy, flashy production values and costumes, and all delivered in under an hour. The comedy is the weak link here. Even the great Tim Conway fails to ignite. Not his fault--the material just isn't very good. Doris sings and looks fabulous. She has a great rapport with John Denver. Speaking of which, a segment of his television show from the year before is a featured extra. There's also a 1940s short of Doris singing with Les Paul's band. There's an episode from "The Doris Day Show" in which her character Doris Martin wins a Doris Day look-alike contest and goes to Hollywood to meet Doris Day. It's silly, but kind of surreal too. More stuff too.
