Director Brian Robbins helms the true story of Bret Kaiser, a detention officer who helped create an American Idol-like contest at Arizona's Tent City jail, sparking hope and focus through the power of music to the thousands of inmates. The film is based on Joshuah Bearman's L.A. Weekly article that spotlighted Kaiser, a former heavy-metal frontman who made headlines when his "Inmate Idle Singing Con-Test" helped curtail violence within the jail, even so far as to attract Alice Cooper as a guest judge. ~ Jeremy Wheeler, All Movie Guide
