Member Rating:
Actor Nick Nolte narrates this detailed look at the life and career of Hunter S. Thompson - the late, great Gonzo journalist whose outrageous exploits inspired such films as Where the Buffalo Roam, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, and The Rum Diaries. A true American original, Thompson was a writer whose depraved exploits were only exceeded by his extraordinary prose. In this documentary, the recollections of Thompson's friends, family, colleagues, and various partners in crime paint a memorable portrait of the man behind the legend. Archival footage of Thompson himself makes this a must-have film for fans and journalism students alike. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

I am a true HST fan. This movie is an incredible let down. It is someone's attempt at picking our pockets. It is a cheap movie that has very few clips of HST. It has a few scenes of recent HST. No old stuff. No real quality quotes or stories. Just a long line of people who knew him saying the obvious. This movie is a waste of time and money. The shame of it is they had such a great source of material... HST... and they blew it and just went for easy money. If they spent more than 30 days making this movie I'll eat HST's hat. I have better stories than they told in the movie and all I did was read his books and see him once so drunk and stoned at a college (Nebraska 88?) he could not really talk coherently. Sadly it was not an act. But, hey, that's HST. Go ahead and rent it. If I am wrong I'll buy you a drink.

Not as good as Gonzo (who can stand to hear Nick Nolte's gruff/ drunken/ listless/ boring voice for that long), but it did reveal some hidden aspects of and interviews with HST that you don't get in Gonzo. If you want info, it's OK, but don't expect more.

A great tribute to Hunter as he is described by those closest to him. Many clips of interviews with Hunter as well as candid shots of hunter. Young hunter, old hunter, Depp hunter, Murray hunter. Very entertaining and captivating.
