Robert Louis Stevenson's influential tale of terror gets a modern re-imagining in this limited BBC series penned by Steven Moffat (Dr. Who, Coupling) and starring James Nesbitt. The year is 2007, and Dr. Tom Jackson (Nesbitt) just can't seem to reign in his murderous alter ego Mr. Hyde. While the two dueling personalities have stricken up a tenuous agreement to share the same body, the good doctor vows to use every technology at his disposal in order to contain the killer within. By using surveillance equipment and making a veritable deal with his own Devil, Dr. Jackman is certain that he can keep Mr. Hyde in check. But somewhere out there, Dr. Jackman and Mr. Hyde's every move is being monitored by an organization whose limitless wealth is only exceeded by their vast power. It seems that Mr. Hyde is no mistake of science and, much to Mr. Jackman's surprise, a plan hatched over a century ago is finally starting to unfold just like clockwork. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

The Brits have a magical touch when it comes to superb TV series, and if it weren't for The Wire or Dexter, then the landscape on this side of the pond would be bleak indeed. Jekyll hits on all marks, a supernatural thriller that never stoops to cheap camera cliche to startle the viewer, using instead the subtle but powerful acting of veteran James Nesbitt to convey the essence of Dr. Jekyll (aka Dr. Jackman in this series) and his dark side, Hyde, a character who makes Hannibal Lecter seem "Hollywood Silly" in comparison. This is a "must-see." Gina Bellman, as the doctor's wife, matches him step-for-step, and the entire cast never sounds a false note. First-rate script by the writer of Dr. Who.

Even after I realized this was not a movie but a television series I was hooked. This was by far one of the best movies I have watched in a long time. It had me laughing and wanting more. This is how I always pictures jekyll & hyde. It is a little hard to get shipping coordinated with blockbuster online since it's a two disc series. Should be sent in order but mine wasn't left me waiting for two weeks for second disc and no stores carry this movie in them. But if you have the time to watch this movie (6 hours) it is so worth the hassle if you have any. Good versus evil could not be any sweeter...

The BBC specializes in Moody, Mercurial, Well Staged progammes, and Jekyll is no different. Set in Modern times, "Jekyll is a married man, witjha suspicious wife, two charming children, all of whom he wants to protect from that lies within him. Rent this DVD for some solw, methodical, bone chilling terror. Makes the phrase "Besides Ones Self" a whole new meaning Lovers of Dr. Who (The newest one), and Torchwood will enjoy this series without the commercials
