Kidnapped and sold to be a farmer's wife, Bai Xuemei, tries to escape from her plight only to be caught and returned to her "husband." Hope arrives with her father and the police but another tragedy is set in motion. Film gives insight into the living conditions of the Chinese. With the one child rule, more male children and raised into adulthood so that the population is not proportionally more or less equal. In this film, the farming village has many single males who are unable to "buy" a wife and are envious of the one who has bough Bai Xuemei. Yet they come to his aid when Bai runs away.

This movie does a good job of portraying how human trafficking can happen to anyone - especially when the threat of a police response is minimal. The acting and directing were good. However, the weak point was the writing as the story never generated the appropriate sense of panic. However, that might be an accurate depiction when the entire village and the authorities are insane and the only clear thinking person is the victim. The ending was also abrupt and will probably leave most viewers wondering what would have come next. The audio defaults to stereo. As for extras, there's a "Stills Gallery". Lightly recommended.

Just when we thought the movie had a chance to get better than bad, the credits began to roll. (Sigh)
