We were surprised at this movie, so much smooching and not enough swimming. There are lots of songs and some opportunities for Esther to swim, but not enough. It is a romance with lots of twists and turns in it's plot! NOT for the children, or for some of us adults. We must say we were disappointed. We remembered her big swimming numbers, not so many bare tummys, continuous flirtation and romancing. :o(
This is one of the very best Esther Williams movies; it's funny, with first rate Johnny Mercer songs, stylishly directed, with winning performances all around and first class production values. The only drawback is that unlike many of Williams other films, there are no Busby Berkeley staged musical spectacle numbers (among the most mind-boggling ever) which are the main reason to watch some of the others. Be sure to watch the deleted musical number in the "special features" section; it's not identified as such, just by the song title ("C'est La Guerre"?).
