A very well done movie. Not the typical commercial flash and dash. All actors did a wonderful job. I also liked the fact that it was set in a country setting with homes that needed work, people who aren't wealthy, driving old cars, and having family problems. Mary Stuart Masterson did a very good job in directing this artsy film, with a mood and tone that was fantastic.

I found the Cake Eaters to be a poignant story of two families who's lives are intertwined by fate, love, and courage. Kristin Stewart's out-standing portrayal of a handicapped young woman's need to bring some normalcy in her life which is overshadowed by a controlling mother, is one of Stewart's best performances. Bruce Dern gives a stellar performance as a father who made some bad choices in his life but truly does love his sons. Mary Stuart Masterson's directorial debut has proved to make this sleeper a must see.

This movie is a continuing preview of Kristen Stewart's acting chops. She is terrific, along with the rest of the cast, including old TV charmer Elizabeth Ashley and her husky, sexy voice. A simple theme done surprisingly well. Keeps your attention throughout. The ending is great.
