This movie is one of the most excellent examples of how fine an actor Jon Voight is that I have ever seen. You have to hang in there in the beginning - I was getting ready to pull it out and watch something else, because in the beginning, it' just a tad sappy - but go with it, because that sappy business stops and things get fairly heavy thenceforth. Voight 's acting is just superb, and Crenna is very good too, as he always is, as well as the children actors Roxana Zal, Robby Kiger and Son Hoang Bul. An original, interesting, and quite moving plot, as well as a very good story.

This is an old favorite for me. One of the best serious movies I've ever seen. Great story, outstanding acting. Keep the tissues handy.
