Ingmar Bergman is no more, but the good news is that his films live on. If you've ever wondered what his first movies were like, discover them in this Criterion set of 5 DVDs. Each contains a separate story, so take your time to view "Torment," "Thirst," "Port of Call," "To Joy," and "Crisis." My favorites were "Torment," a student's initiation into love while being harassed by his sadistic Latin teacher, and "To Joy," a tale of the tempestuous marriage of 2 symphony players. The films foreshadow later Bergman works and are filmed in velvety black & white.
