The Year Without a Santa Claus (2006)
Member Rating:
Jules Bass and Arthur Rankin, Jr.'s 1974 animated classic comes to vivid life for a whole new generation of viewers in this live action holiday adventure starring John Goodman, Chris Kattan, Eddie Griffin, Ethan Suplee, and Carol Kane. When a depressed Santa Claus (Goodman) announces plans to take the year off after becoming convinced that the masses have forgotten the true meaning of Christmas, loyal elves Jingle (Suplee) and Jangle (Griffin) make it their mission to prove their boss wrong. Saving Christmas is going to be no easy task though, because in order to truly show Santa that the spirit of Christmas is alive and well Jingle and Jangle will first have to settle a longstanding feud between Mother Nature (Kane)'s tempestuous sons Heatmiser and Snowmiser. Perhaps, with a little luck and a bit of help from Mother Nature's notoriously disagreeable siblings, Jingle and Jangle may be able to lift Santa's spirits in time to get his sleigh in flight by the time the sun goes down on the biggest night of the year. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

I live in the town where this was filmed, Natchitoches aka 'South Town'. It was filmed in June or July, the hottest months of the year. You could tell that John Goodman was feeling the heat, he wasn't the same actor I have always seen. He did do a good job though, it was well over 90 degrees and he wore that heavy santa suit. I know all the cast was feeling the heat, but everyone was extremely nice. I just wish they could have filmed it when it was a little cooler, I think the preformance of the cast would have been better.

I really loved the cartoon. This just stunk though. They ruined the Miser Bros. great song and Mrs Claus' role was hacked to nothing. John Goodman may have the weight but he just wasn't a very good Santa either.

This is a re-make of a classic movie! I don't know if it were poor financial backing or what, but it was totally boring! I love John Goodman for his ability to always do physical comedy and Delta Burke is one of my all time favorite actresses, but that great people were not used to the best of their ability. This is not one I would own for my personal video library! TRY AGAIN!
