The Vampire is an atmospheric and well-made film from Mexico that started the monster movie trend south of the border. It's well acted and downright creepy at times, though it could have done without the comic relief from producer/actor Abel Salazar. The sequel, the Vampire's Coffin, while still entertaining, was rushed into production and it shows. It lacks the atmosphere and spookiness of the first. CasaNegra has done their usual excellent job with these discs; the films look great and are presented in their original spanish language with english subtitles, so you don't have to tolerate K. Gordon Murray's laughable dubbing. Also, you get a rather informative commentary track.
