What a phenomenal movie that I can wholeheartedly recommend for children and adults alike. Clearly this movie would enlighten any classroom about the ethnic struggles in our beloved country. A great movie to view during Black History month! Also the soundtrack introduces all people to bluegrass established here in the US and adopted by the likes of the Beatles and the Rolling Stones! I would classify this movie as a National Treasure!

How the heckum did this trash get in my movie list? The movie title doesn't even make sense, the movie isn't about the dog named Sounder at all.

In 1972, Mattel rented a theater nearby and previewed this for employees and family. I was never so proud of my company (Ritt was affiliated with Mattel then), and proud to my kids. 7-11 then, they were eyes-popping interested at a whole new world. Taj Majal music is memorable. Acting superb, story sad but uplifting at the same time. See it.
