A bizarre little time-waster circa 1946, SHOCK at least won't squander all that much of your time: It lasts only 70 minutes. The movie stars Vincent Price, who went on to many other better things, and Lynn Bari, who, though appearing in well over 160 films and TV stints, was never much recognized by the man (or woman) in the street. The plot has to do with a young war bride who by accident sees something naughty and pays for it over the next hour, as the baddies plot first to keep her sedated and off the streets and then move on to something a bit more permanent. There are no thrills or surprises; performances, writing and direction are rote; but, ah, the gorgeous black-and-white cinematography: Together with the fine DVD transfer given this rather undeserving film, it almost makes your time well spent.
