I have always been interested in this great man Churchill ever since I saw him and Clementine on
the steps of Middlesex hospital in 1961 when I was working in London as a teacher.. This particular
biography film narrated by his bodyguard takes one into every aspect of the man's life up until 1931(disc 1).
The actual footage of almost every aspect of Churchill's public life is bewildering and very thorough
to say the least. I can't wait to see the remaining 3 discs of the man's life. 5 stars!
While this is a big formulaic and sometimes the re-enactments are a bit hokey, the vintage footage is amazing. It has a wonderful slow (but not dull) pace that thoroughly examines each incident and part of Churchill's life. I liked the time spent on Lawrence of Arabia especially. You really feel as if you've learned something more about the man and that period of history. I recommend it for Churchill fans and anyone who has an interest in English and European politics and history of the first half of the 20th century
