Unfortunately, this is a disappointing, lifeless adaptation of the Michael Chabon novel. If you have read the novel, or are a fan of Chabon's writing, you will quickly see how the screenplay left out most of the edgier and charming parts of the book and supplemented it with predictable and nonsensical plot elements.

Aside from some steamy sex scenes by eye candy actresses(Mena Suvari and Sienna Miller),and then rounded out with an out-of context gay-man-on-man scene, this movie has an extremely weak plot and story-line.Might sound interesting but its not. Its boring. It's supposed to be a coming of age story mixed with a - love story but its just way, way, too weak. The actor playing Art (the main character) is a mediocre actor at best.So the rating is this: zero stars for the movie and acting, 1 star for the sex scenes. You get straight and gay to choose from..OVERALL :If your looking for a 3-4-5 star movie-this is NOT it! How they got the great actor Nick Nolte to play the father figure and get involved in the financing of this horrible movie project absolutely escapes me.

It is a long boring movie that has no place to go, so it does not go anywhere.
