The friendship between Murphy Brown (Candice Bergen) and her "FYI" coworker Frank Fontana (Joe Regalbuto) takes quite a beating when producer Miles (Grant Shaud) assigns both journalists to the same story--the biggest one of the year, no less. Elsewhere, Phil (Pat Corley), owner of Murphy's favorite watering hole, decides to pep up business by hiring a smarmy vocalist (played to the hilt by Fred Travalena).
