For a span of four years, Olive Thomas was one of the biggest and brightest stars of the silent cinema. An attractive and personable leading lady, Thomas was well known for her vivacious presence which embodied the carefree spirit of youth. Thomas' reign as a screen star came to a sudden and unfortunate end when, in the fall of 1920, she died in a Paris hospital under suspicious circumstances, not yet 26 years old. The Olive Thomas Collection: The Flapper/Everybody's Sweetheart is a two-fer DVD release which features one of Thomas' final starring vehicles, The Flapper, in which she plays a girl from a small town who becomes a local scandal after she unwittingly becomes involved with a gang of criminals and takes up with an older man. Also included is Olive Thomas: Everybody's Sweetheart, a documentary about her short but memorable career and controversial death; the film includes interviews with fans and historians Daniel Selznick, Richard Ziegfeld, and Allison Anders, while Rosanna Arquette provides the narration. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide
