Cat People is a highly atmospheric but ultimately underwhelming horror movie. The movie is about a young woman who believes that sexual relations will result in her turning into a cat. The plot sounds ridiculous but it's actually fine in the movie. The performances are fine, none really standout. The two best scenes is an eerie midnight stroll through Central park where a woman hears footsteps behind her but sees nothing. The other is a late night swim in which ominous shadows and sounds plague the same woman. Both stand out for their simple but atmospherically effective chills. The rest of the movie unfortunately isn't as good though. Still a movie to check out if your an old horror movie fan.
If you love classic horror this is a must see. There's no gore or extreme violence just old school creepiness from the awesome Val Lewton. Curse of the Cat People really doesn't have much to do with the series but it's a decent ghost yarn and could have held it's own without the cat people connotation. Film students Cat People is a lesson learned in creating atmosphere.
Cat people is a creepy little horror film for its time but nothing really special however curse of the cat people is one of the worst sequels ever made, it has nothing to do with curses or cat people
