In 1972, funnyman Bill Cosby took his talents to a new medium with the animated children's series Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids. Inspired by Cosby's tales of growing up in Philadelphia from his popular standup act, Cosby saw Fat Albert as an opportunity to educate and inspire children while they were entertained, and the show also became one of the first Saturday-morning television shows to offer entertainment from an African-American perspective.
