Nails (2004)
Member Rating:
A haunted hitman whose violent career has taken a toll on his mental health turns to trepanning as a means of relieving his growing anxiety in director Andrey Iskanov's haunting horror short. As flashbacks of his former victims flash before his panic-stricken eyes, a troubled gun for hire reads a detailed article on trepanning (a process in which a hole is drilled or scraped into the skull, exposing the dura mater and purportedly relieving a number of mental health issues) and makes the decision to hammer a series of six-inch nails into his cranium. Though his pain is indeed momentarily relieved, the subsequent clarity experienced by the hitman soon gives way to a horror far more intense than his previous flashbacks. Now, as his addiction to the nails continues to grow and his search for inner peace becomes ever more elusive, it's going to take something a bit more substantial to truly ease the pressure in this killer's head. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

Mainstream lemmings. They throw around references to cinematography and musical scores and acting, and it's plainly evident that their naive and vulgar conception of "good film-making" comes from a narrow diet of Hollywood drivel and Merchant-Ivory epics. Ignore them: if you want truly original, cutting-edge film-making, look no further: Nails is it.

This movie plays out more like an experimental film than a motion picture. To say there was no plot wouldn't be correct, but the summary by blockbuster gives it more credit than it deserves. All this movie really amounts to is a ultra-gory, ultra-psychedelic head trip. I gave it more than one star because I appreciate originality, and this movie has that shooting out of all it's orifices (no, literally: liquids shooting out of people happens a lot here!) Not recommended...

This movie was a mess!! The cinematography was halting, and jerky. The plot (what plot) was nonexistent, and confusing. If I had'nt already known basically what it was about, i would'nt have had a clue. The score was nothing to brag about either, alot of loud noise!! I sometimes have eclectic taste in films, so i have requested some obscure choices from blockbuster online, most of the time i was happy with my choices, if i was not paticularly pleased with a selection, there was always usually something redeemable about the film (cinematogaraphy, score, acting ) etc. There was nothing redeemable about this film.
