An American journalist in search of the love he once left behind travels to a mysterious Japanese island where the past is best left forgotten in the one installment of Showtime's Masters of Horror series that was too controversial for American television. It was long ago that Christopher (Billy Drago) met the mysterious prostitute who captured his heart, but their grim fate was forever sealed when he left the island with only a promise to return one day in the future. Unlike many of the insincere souls who promise to spirit the prostitutes away from the dark and infernal island, Christopher actually made good on his word. However, life is cheap on this bewitched island where the local brothel is the sole refuge for weary souls, and though he ultimately proved to be a rare exception to the rule, Christopher has taken far too long to fulfill his promise. Now, as he shares his woeful tale with a horribly scarred whore (Youki Kudoh) whose knowledge of his long lost love's true fate may prove more of a curse than a blessing, Christopher is about to discover that there are times when death can be the kindest release of all. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

It is easy to see why this couldn't be shown on Showtime with the rest of the MoH series. Just what you'd expect from Miike...Bizarre, artistic, and truly disturbing.

I've seen many horror movies and whatnot and I have to say after watching this talked about never aired episode, I was left speechless and disturbed. Won't go as far as saying it's the best piece of work I've ever seen, but for a one hour episode of a show like this it was pretty damn good. Starts out slow but then kicks in. Not so much a horror type but just disturbing scenes which left me bug eyed and mouth hainging open. Yeah, they couldn't have shown this on American t.v.

I loved Imprint and that fact that it was incredibly beautiful and intensely brutal at the same time. When I saw this was banned from Showtime's Masters of Horror, I felt sure that with all the hype I was in for a huge disappointment. I was completely wrong. Stylish and better directed than any of the other Masters of Horror, I found the brutality shocking and beautiful all at once. And the story was so much fun I couldn't believe it. I think Takashe Miike did a great job for only a one hour short (felt like a full length feature when watching). And I say woe to those who complain they don't like it because it's too violent. Anyone who's seen his films before should have seen it coming.
