Director Hans-Christian Schmid helms this award winning account of a first-year university student whose bout with epilepsy leads to a tragic exorcism. Inspired by the same events that were previously dramatized in The Exorcism of Emily Rose, Requiem follows college freshman and devoted Catholic Michaela Klinger (Sandra Hueller) as she attempts to adjust to dormitory life while struggling to meet the growing pressures and academic expectations of school. Though a tentative friendship with temperamental classmate Hanna (Anna Blomeier) and a blossoming romance with easygoing chemistry student Stefan (Nicholas Reinke) at first find the shy student developing a pair of healthy bonds, an ill-advised abandonment of her medication regimen sets into motion a chilling series of events. Warned by a series of apparitions and disembodied voices that she should stay away from rosaries and crucifixes, Michaela seeks out the help of both her parents and amiable priest Father Landauer (Walter Schmidinger) to no avail. When Michaela becomes convinced that she is being made to suffer in the same manner of a well-known saint, well-intending pastor Borchert (Jens Harzer) hastily assembles an in-home exorcism that is doomed to end in tragedy. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

I was hoping for another take on the Emily Rose story like the synopsis gives, but it did not play out like that. I really enjoy foreign movies so was hoping this would also be a winner but it was disappointing. It was quite slow throughout the movie and I was hoping for more background on the story but not too much was told. The acting was decent and the main character was believeable, but I still found myself wanting more from this.

well, i had thought that there would be some awesome exorcism scenes in this one... but, there weren't. rather, the film shows how mental illness, religious fervor and a naive, sheltered girl get paired together into what may be interpreted as being "possessed". If you are going to watch this with sub-titles, this will probably be a really boring movie. The acting is fairly good though, the charecters believable and I did like the dancing scenes.

This movie, I felt was a big waste of time. It might be a more truer account of Anneliese Michel's life, but it left me dazed and confused. I felt as if the movie made it seem like she wasn't possessed and the medical aspects of it all took over the movie. I thought that it was decided that nobody really knew if she was really possessed. I guess it's a good thing that Requiem and The Exorcism of Emily Rose were both made. The Exorcism of Emily Rose shows that the possession was very possible and Requiem doesn't. I guess nobody will ever really know the truth, just for the fact that everybody that was really involved can't break confidentiality and that's how stories of exorcisms really are. No respected priest would give out that kind of information, it's against their creed. They would be banished for it.
