Robin Harris: Live from the Comedy Act Theater (2009)

Robin Harris: Live from the Comedy Act Theater (2009)
Member Rating:
Few contemporary comedians African-American or otherwise have influenced and inspired as many as the late Robin Harris, and in this release featuring never-before-seen stand up footage and interviews with a variety of celebrities and comics, comedy lovers who may not have had the opportunity to see Harris perform live can finally find out what all the fuss is about. No one could crack them up like Harris, and there were few venues in which the comedian felt more at home than at The World Famous Comedy Act Theater in Los Angeles. As Harris takes the stage of The World Famous Comedy Act Theater to tell a series of hilarious tales and toy playfully with the willing crowd, the cameras are rolling to capture a moment in time where the laughter never stops. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

No doubt about it, he passed way before his prime. He was like Dave Chappelle, he could be talking about eating dinner and be funny. Dem's Bebe's kids.

The legend of Robin Harris has a blemish thanks to whoever put this DVD together. I have him on CD when he talks about some of the material in House Party, which I thought made him one of the best comics in my mind. I hoped that this would have some of that on this DVD, instead I got clips from some of his moderately funny standup gigs. AND WAY TOO MANY interviews! One of them is over 10 minutes long and the sound is not there (and there are no subtitles to read what he (Joe Torrey) is saying). In fact the sound flucatuates from loud to just under audible. The production is terrible and whoever put this together needs to close their doors, yesterday! This is mostly a documentary and it should state that. I give the DVD a 2 star rating, but give the late Robin Harris 5 stars.

Robin Harris was great. I wish I had read these reviews before renting this one. Someone had no clue what they were doing labeling this as a concert DVD. Well, I guess they did, it was about fooling the public to make money. Horrible DVD, don't waste your time.
