Member Rating:
In an effort to encourage children and leaders to work towards a more stable future for generations to come, filmmaker Owen Alik Shahadah explores the history of atrocities which resulted when, 500 years ago, countless Africans were forced to migrate from their continent. Interviews with such notable figures as cultural activist Dr. Maulana Karenga, Hidden History author Andrew Muhammad, writer Dr. Francis Wesling, and Dr. Molefi K. Asante, the father of Afrocentricity, and interviews with everyday laypeople are inter-cut to offer telling insight into the conflicts brought about by racial inequalities. Accompanying these interviews are a broad spectrum of images from the beaches of Barbados to the streets of London and the cities of the United States, as well as a haunting score by composer Tunde Jegede. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

500 YEARS LATER is one of those every 20 years films. Like the one history will remember. I can see a time when this film is the focal point of social-historical lectures in universities. I can see this film breaking the boundaries of film-making where film making becomes viewed as a historical vessel of the 21st century in the way ancient Egyptians left pyramids. But the best part about this film for me personally is the way in which it doesn't portray or play in to the stereotype of the "Black victim" the sorry everything is against us victim. No, it is honest and puts responsibility back into the hands of our people. A must see for every Black person and essential viewing for anyone who claims to be sincere about the forward motion of humanity peacefully. Because it will give anyone who sees it a direct uncoloured look into the Global Black experience 500 YEARS LATER. excellent work!!!!!!!!!

I LEARNED FROM THIS MOVIE, LINCOLN DID NOT FREE US BECAUSE HE BELIEVED BLACKS DESERVED TO BE FREE. HE REALIZED HE WAS LOSING THE WAR AGAINST THE SOUTH....TODAY, BLACKS HAVE ENSLAVED THEMSELVES BY PUTTING THEIR TRUST IN MAN, WORSHIPPING OF FALSE IDOLS/DEITIES AND NOT TAKING ADVANTAGE OF THE BEST EDUCATION OFFERED TO THEM......
