Paco Pena: Miss Flamenca ()
Member Rating:
Flamenco guitarist Paco Peña offers a new take on the traditional mass in this release that combines the spiritualism of Catholicism with the musical tradition of Flamenco. In his notable effort to find a comfortable middle ground between religious tradition and musical experimentation, Peña adapted Spanish Catholic Mass text and employ his superior knowledge of the Flamenco tradition to match words to music in the most effective and appropriate manner possible. Also joining Peña in his spiritual experiment are acclaimed Flamenco singers Diego, La Susi, Guadiana, and El Chapero, and a choir twenty voices strong and ready to help the innovative guitarist bring his unique message to the masses. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

This movie is not for the uninitiated. Misa Flamenca, which means Flamenco Mass, shows just part of what is Flamenco. In Andalucia, it is not just a staged floorshow for dumb tourists, but encompasses all their aspects of their life. Church services, weddings, funerals, parties, and Christmas carolling, etc., etc.

Well I was pleasantly ripped off with this flick..Miss Flamenca...there is not even a coochi coochi chick in this flick?? Hey, who edits these things? Somebody who still thinks the Pope is Polish? Luckily, I am a loose Catholic and a Flamenco nut...you have to have those 2 things going for you otherwise you might be bored...Also, no high-mass groupies need watch this one. Paco Pena is an excellent soloist with allot of duende, but a little stuffy in this venue(cause he's in a church) but he really pulls it off with the other dancers, singers... that one skinny long hair guy is the real deal, and even the Cajon rocks.
