The Inspector Lynley Mysteries: In the Guise of Death (2005)
Member Rating:
Nathaniel Parker and Sharon Small headline the smash BBC series The Inspector Lynley Mysteries, as detectives Inspector Lynley and D.S. Havers. Each tense episode finds the partners delving into local unsolved crimes and thus delivering the responsible parties into the hands of the English judicial system. In the episode "In the Guise of Death," penned by Simon Block and originally run March 24, 2005, Havers - who has received some recompense from the department for her gunshot injury on the job - uses the funds to protect herself and assuage her fears by enrolling in Akido self-defense classes at a Cornwall retreat. While Lynley stays nearby, visiting his mother in town, the Cornish locals discover a well-known horse trainer hanged in his stable. Because the victim has long suffered from anxiety in relation to money woes, the local authorities suspect suicide, but lingering evidence points Lynley and Havers to the conclusion of foul play, including ties to a smuggling ring and the local aristocracy. Meanwhile, Lynley feels torn between his continued career as a crimesolver, and a future as caretaker and scion of his family estate. Gabrielle Drake and Adrian Bower guest star. ~ Nathan Southern, Rovi

The Inspector Lynley series is one that is better enjoyed by reading the books than by watching the TV shows. This one was okay, but not great or even real good, by any means. I'll watch more via rental, but it's not one I'd care to own and view again.
