A once high-ranking Soviet military leader has resurfaced in Chechnya, where he has been consolidating his power with remarkable success. United States intelligence discovers he's been able to construct a thermonuclear weapon from materials scavenged from an abandoned nuclear power plant, and he and his soldiers have taken a handful of powerful citizens hostage. In hopes of preventing a global catastrophe, the military brings in Painter (Wesley Snipes), a special agent known as "the Marksman" for his talent in focusing in on the key elements of a crisis and resolving it. Painter and his crew attempt to get inside the nuclear plant-turned-terrorist base and rescue the hostages before U.S. forces begin staging a full-scale attack. But Painter's plan soon backfires when the military's operations don't go as planned, leaving him to wonder who set him up -- and why. I like Wesley Snipes, but even that could not resurrect this movie for me. Couldn't make myself watch it to the end.

Where did they find the guy who played the Lt.? He can't be a real actor. None of the actors were very good, but this guy was a joke. Second, the military stuff. Couldn't they have hired someone, anyone, to advise them on the military action? They didn't need a high priced general or anything, a guy that worked in the mess hall could have done a better job than they did. The soldiers looked terrified even before things went bad. They are supposed to be stealthy and they are talking in normal voices. Gun handling was horrible, they were wearing soft caps on a mission! And what was up w/ the white backpack w/ leather straps? Was that his backpack from college?

I should have gone with my first instincts after watching the first minute of this film... turn it off. The first minute mixes clips of F-4 Phantoms and F-16 Falcons in trying to depict a single scene. I could have spliced together clips on my home computer that were more believable. The acting was bad and the special effects were also terrible. An elite military unit that does not even carry night vision equipment with them? Totally disappointing.
