This is one of Miike`s earlier works, given a better cast and what seems like a modest budget. The film is about two friends and about being in high school. Not high school, but the feeling and neutrality of not quiet being adult or a child. The film is long, but this is not a surprise to anyone who has watched Miike films. Things to note are the nonexistent use of dolly shots, all are stationary, except for one or two. Another is to note the abundance of humor in this film, differ from many of his later work, but this is also made as a straight to video film. Miike, himself, is also in the film, as a cameo. It is always a pleasure to see him in his own work, ever since Gozu. This film is dramatic, and comedic, and essential to any Miike fan.
