This movie is based on literature written in the mid 1700s by S. Richardson. Even though it is about ten years old, I felt the movie portrayed the book realistically and I found it to be very entertaining. The movie dialogue does not compare with Pride and Prejudice, but I felt that it was a great if you enjoy English historical movies. The characters are not written as complex as they should be, but Sean Bean does a good job as Lovelace and the conflict he faces along with the main character, Clarissa. Her "brother" [I believe Jonathon Phillips] does a wonderful job as the greedy, selfish brother, and Hermione [sorry forget her last name] is great as Clarissa's best friend.

Knowing the book "Pamela" by the same author, I chose "Clarissa" expecting a movie that would be along the same standards as "Pride & Prejudice" or "Sense & Sensibility" as movies go. I was thoroughly disappointed! Not only did the movie have disgusting displays of sexuality, and immodesty with the women of the period, but even displayed a rape scene complete with frontal shots of the woman, and the sounds associating with it.... a very disturbing scene! If you are looking for a movie that is Jane Austen like, or Bronte like, this ISNT it! A definite thumbs down!

Depressing and long. I received only parts three and four on the second disk. They should all come together. So I didn't even watch the first two parts. That was enough for me. I turned it off once the rape scene came on.
