This is not about the rise and fall of Camelot, it is about the aftermath and the struggles of people when the walls all fall down. Sam Niell is, as always, incredible as a Merlin, his apprentice is comical who turns out to be more than just and apprentice whom Merlin is reluctant about taking on. If you do not have a good working knowledge of the stories of Camelot then you miss a lot because as usual in this sort of story things are not always what they seem and the good are not always good and those that were at one time good think they have a good reason to now exact revenge. Don't miss this one.

I'm a huge fan of the Arthurian stories, both the medieval legends and more historical based tales. And I enjoyed the original Merlin mini-series and Sam Neill's performance as Merlin. I'm not one to stop a movie half way through. I can watch even the worst fantasy B film and be entertained. Even so, I returned Merlin's Apprentice after only watching half of it. I wasn't remotely interested in seeing how it ended. If anyone else watched the whole movie and can attest to the quality of the ending, I'll be interested in seeing the review. But if the second half is anything like the first, I'm glad I stopped watching.
