Synopsis of Ángel O Demonio

Mexican director Víctor Urruchúa's 1947 drama Ángel O Demonio follows the melodramatic vicissitudes that create tumult in the relationship of two lovers, Gabriel and Blanca, as they endure several reunions and breakups. The story commences in 1930 Mexico City, when Gabriel, an aspiring writer with precious little output, arrives in the city and runs headfirst into serendipity. A luggage mixup propels him into an encounter with the alluring Blanca, with whom he falls instantly in love. The relationship provides the incentive for Gabriel to author his premier novel, Woman of Destiny, but when Blanca leaves Gabriel, the well of inspiration runs dry. In time, Gabriel spots yet another alluring woman - this one a masked dancer in a nearby club. Lo and behold, it turns out to be Bianca; Gabriel is enraged with her over her prior romantic betrayal, but manages to forgive, and - in time, marries her and fathers her children. Little does he realize, however, that she's been seeing someone else on the sly the entire time. ~ Nathan Southern, All Movie Guide
