At first, it may appear slow and too much attention paid to trivial detail, but it is the detail that made this movie great. It really paid attention to detail-- the emperor's habbits, the isolation, and the chrysanthemum crest on the back of the chair. The conversation between general Macauther and emperor was most interesting (not sure how true, word for word).

Not too bad for a foreign film. Some of the subtitles were too fast. I found it difficult to grasp what the director was trying to portray; in the scenes I couldn't put together a 'message'. ALSO - There are now TWO of us submitting reviews. The 'Member Rating' is 5 stars. Neither of us gave it anywhere near that score. How does this happen?

Good acting, but looks based upon a play, thus most of the scences are interior. No action, if this is what's sought.
