Filmmaker Marc Rothemund utilizes long-buried historical records to reconstruct the last six days in the life of renowned German anti-Nazi activist Sophie Scholl (Julia Jentsch) in an Academy Award-nominated feature that earned star Julia Jentsch a Best Actress award at both the 2005 Lolas and the 2005 Berlin International Film Festival. The year is 1943 and Adolf Hitler's devastating march across Europe has resulted in the formation of the White Rose, an underground resistance movement born in Munich and dedicated to the fall of the Third Reich. Despite being one of the only female members in the White Rose movement, Sophie Scholl's conviction is strong and her will unbreakable. Eventually arrested by the Gestapo for distributing pamphlets on campus alongside her brother Hans, Sophie boldly maintains her ground by calling for freedom and personal responsibility and never once backing down even in the face of certain, inescapable death. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

This film is an excellent true story of a young woman and her friends who stand up against the Nazi's at a time when their elders were unwilling to do so. The movie focuses on the trial of Sophie Scholl, a young educated German girl, in WWII Germany who speaks out against the totalitarian governemnt and their treatment of the German citizens. The court room scenes are moving, but none more so than the final scene of the movie when she has been sentenced to death. The movie is best if you can speak German fluently and turn off the subtitles (per my wife), but I had no problem following along with the subtitles for most of the film.

A wonderful movie based on true events. The courage and humanity of Sophie Scholl, a young German woman, who uses words to stand up to the inhuman Nazi regime is inspiring. Sophie pays with her life but her words live. Well acted, beautiful despite the dark content and believable.

This movie truely is a gem. Faith, values, integrity and the willingness to pay the ultimate price for those things is the focus of this movie. I did not know anything about Sophie Scholl or the White Rose until I saw this movie andcannot believe I had never heard of these incredible martyrs in Nazi Germany and I love history!!! I love how the sun and the windows in this movie reflect faith and God! I must see for for anyone who ever wondered what they would do if they lived in Nazi Germany! Watch this movie; you will not regret it! "The Sun (Son :)) still shines"
