Otaku No Video (1991)

Otaku No Video (1991)
Member Rating:
This comedy is a parody of Japanese animated films. Told in a faux-documentary fashion, a college student named Kobu catches up with Tanaka, a high school friend who is an otaku , an obsessive fan of Japanese animation. Tanaka converts Kobu to his bizarre world, and the two are determined to become famous creators of anime, or Japanese animation. Their creation is Misty May, a cute and sexy character in a costume inspired by the Playboy Bunnies; she is a spoof of the genre's portrayal of women. Many other conventions of the genre are parodied; those who are familiar with "Japanimation" will understand the many in-jokes. ~ Jonathan E. Laxamana, Rovi
