Battle of the Planets [Anime Series] (1979)
Member Rating:
In the tradition of Robotech, Battle of the Planets was a redubbed, reedited version of the Japanese series Gatchaman. While the original story remains in place for the most part, changes were made to the music, dialogue, plot, and mood during the editing process to create a series more popular with kids. Out of the original 105 Gatchaman episodes, 85 Battle of the Planets episodes were made, telling the story of a group of five teenage superheroes called G-Force who must unite to defeat the evil leaders of Planet Spectra, who have set their sites on enslaving the entire Federation of Peaceful Planets. Frequently taking off at a moment's notice, the members of G-Force are on high alert, for The Luminous One and Zoltar, the most feared leaders of the Planet Spectra, are planning something very insidious indeed. ~ Cammila Collar, Rovi

It was great to watch the episodes in both the English version and then the Japanese version (Gatchaman). The English versions are simplified whereas the Japanese versions are more adult oriented and actually do contain cursing with different plot variations. The youngest science team member has a speaking role in the Japanese version which adds to the overall science team make-up and believability.
