Pompeii: The Last Day (2003)
Member Rating:
In the year 79 A.D., the ancient city of Pompeii was transformed from a thriving community to a wasteland in little more than a day when the massive volcano Mount Vesuvius erupted, raining billions of tons of lava, stone, and ash upon the nearby city. Pompeii: The Last Day is a docudrama which though state-of-the-art special effects recreates the destruction of Pompeii while depicting the human drama as the people of the city must either flee their homes or face certain death. Unlike the one reviewer's statement I saw for this film, I can hardly say "whatever!" This docu-drama puts right at the foot of Mt. Vesuvius as it blows. The characters in it are based of real people, whose remains have been found. It feels as if you are right there as it is happening. It is a bit disturbing; however, is a wonderful docu-drama with great special effects. For all ancient-history buffs and spectators alike, this film is your ticket to the worst volcanic disaster in recorded history. Brace yourselves.

What an amazing film!!! Full of a great deal of fascinating information (Did you know there is no word for "volcano" in Latin? -- Residents didn't know what was happening!!). Enactments of certain scenarios, which evidence found 2,000 years later is offered (a bracelet on a woman reads "...I am [name].....slave to Master [name].") Amazing stuff.......from the minute it starts including some truly valuable scientific information on what was happening to the volcano and the residents of Pompeii. Lastly, there is another feature (and, also massively fascinating), on the DVD, regarding life of Gladiators. Bravo!

Great DVD, Lots of Info and Puts you there, realistic. I have got more info about the disaster from this movie than any other book or movie. my only complaint is that it was not long enoough, not even an hour long.
