True story based on events when a Paraguayan doctor (Anthony Hopkins) files suit against authorities responsible tortuous death of his son. Except for Hopkins who can surely self-direct despite the aptitude of a director, the acting is a bit stilted & doesn't flow well, almost as if cast members are reading from their script scene by scene. Like other reviewers unfamiliar w/the story, Hopkin's British accent made me believe he was a English subject married to a Paraguayan native. However, one particular scene in which Filitarga temporarily snaps as he battles an uphill battle practically alone, redeems the film & catches the viewers attention to an unsatisfactory ending. However, in that the film was done one year from the date of incident, perhaps that is why it ends w/the brief recap as the daughter leaves to find the torturer at large. A remake might tell the story the way it needs to be told.
