One of the biggest artists in hip-hop, rapper Jay-Z surprised fans in 2003 when he announced he would retire following the release of his hotly anticipated collection The Black Album. In November of 2003, not long after the album hit stores, Jay-Z staged a special show at New York City's Madison Square Garden, in which he performed alongside some of the most popular and influential acts in hip-hop and R&B, including R. Kelly, Beyoncé Knowles, Mary J. Blige, Missy Elliott, ?uestlove, Pharrell Williams, P. Diddy, and more. Billed as Jay-Z's final solo performance (though he would stage a collaborative tour with R. Kelly in the fall of 2004), Fade to Black is a concert documentary that captures both the action on-stage and the celebration behind the scenes; the film also features an inside look at the making of The Black Album. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

Definition of new hip hop and what it should be- is right here on this DVD! This is what a real lyricist should be like. Jay-Z's Fade to Black shows the reality of making hip hop music. The behind the scene clips of 'Hova' getting his tracks together for his last album make you appreciate the music even more. For those TRUE hip hop fans, this is a DVD to buy, never mind rent! This is a history making DVD/Concert shot. You will not be disappointed. The special appearances made the concert ridiculous. The new era of ROC performance was off the hook. Any new coming artist needs to see this. Making music should be natural, like the air you breathe - like it is for 'Jiggaman', feed off of this DVD, get high from just seeing him rhyme from his head - no writing the lyrics down.... I don't have enough words to describe the fact that this is worth watching. EP.

I thought Jay-Z did a good job on this documentary. Even though am not a hugh Jay-Z fan I found him to be very creative in doing this. It showed viewers the behind the scenes of the making of his last music project. If you're a Jay-Z fan you should rent this you won't be disappointed. YOU GO JAY-Z!!!!!!!
