film noir at it's best. difficult to peg. a very talented cast of characters whose involvement with each other is slowly revealed as they interact. their world is focused and corrupt, but it takes 3/4ths of the movie to understand just how. no s*x, not overly profane, but with brief scenes, whether shown or implied that will have you cringing. in the end, we could not say that we 'liked' or 'identified' with any of the characters but what is unmistakable is that this is a taught, tense drama throughout. the french once again show us the power of film. the end is an unexpected surprise. recommended .
