Slutty Summer (2004)
Member Rating:
The eternal question of sex vs. love causes one man no small amount of annoyance in this gay-themed independent comedy. Markus (Casper Andreas) is an aspiring writer who one day comes home to his apartment to discover his long-term boyfriend is in bed with another man. Now unexpectedly single, Markus is thrown back into the dating scene, and finds himself getting all sorts of advice (not all of it called for) from his co-workers at a fashionable restaurant in Chelsea. Marilyn (Virginia Bryan) says you should set ground rules and stick to them, Peter (Jeffrey Christopher Todd) advises Markus to hold out for true love, and Luke (Jesse Archer) prefers to share stories from his own freewheeling love life. As Markus sorts out what his friends have to say, he finds himself falling for Tyler (Jamie Hatchett), a handsome model, but to his dismay Tyler makes it clear he has little use for either monogamy or long-term relationships. Should Markus follow Peter's lead and wait for Mr. Right or take Luke's advice and settle for Mr. Right Now? Slutty Summer was written and directed by Casper Andreas, who also played Markus; it was his first feature film. ~ Mark Deming, Rovi

This movie is in fact a low-budget movie. There are a handful of times where the lines are being forced out or the acting is a little over the top but the overall film is a great little story. It does have just a bit of a plot and a point to it. And, being a gay film, throw in a few random butt shots. I wouldn't watch this movie over and over again but I would recommend seeing it at least once. Just know going in that it's low-budget although it has a pretty good soundtrack for the sex scenes. That's always a plus in my book!

For a vanity production--Casper Andreas wrote, directed, produced and took the lead role here--SLUTY SUMMER isn't half bad. Which makes it only half good. Performances are OK, as far as the script will allow, but this is a been-there/done-that gay movie to a fare-thee-well. It’s worst when it takes itself at all seriously--which is about half the time; the remainder is spent on passable dialog about gay sexual habits, with a bit devoted to a poor woman with straight man trouble. All the leading characters work as wait-staff in Greenwich Village, but from the appearance of their relatively abominable service, this restaurant would have gone out of business long ago. Rent this if you’re hankering for a gay movie about the same-old-same old, but I doubt you'll rate it much above the two-star mark. For something challenging, funnier and a whole lot sexier, try "Eating Out"; for something sweet, stylish and genuine, watch "Dorian Blues."

if this is going to be a porn, which is how bad the storyline is, it needs better looking actors. Again, rings home the message that gay life is nothing but sex. Also do the writers think they are improving the movie by adding as many curse words that they can think of??
