This movie didn't have any story to tell. It was a series of scenes that just left me hanging. Someone please tell Spike to get a good writer and to use some talented actors in lead roles. Throwing together scenes that include some fast hip tough talk does not a story make. I started losing interest fast and about 1/3 the way through I could watch it quadruple-time without the dialogue and not miss the non-elements of the non-story. The actors put their heart and soul in this, but the effort just didn't take. Sorry.

So this DVD adaptation of a proposed Spike Lee Series is a bit of a let-down because I would have loved to seen a more focused drawn-out telling of this story. This film is beautifully shot, with some of the most gorgeous cinematragraphy seen in awhile. This is up there with the shooting of City of God, Training Day and any of the Christopher Doyle outings (ex: In the Mood for Love, 2046). Visually quite beautiful, the story is balanced fairly well - definitly pre-Crash type of narrative but interesting and engagin nonetheless. This is more of a Spike Lee 'autopilot film' - he sort of continues working off of his Do The Right Thing, Summer of Sam pallatte, but it is definitly worth enjoying.
