Successful television director and film producer Michael Pressman sets off with high hopes when he decides to helm a film production of Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune. He believes the experience of directing a film starring his struggling actress of a wife (Lisa Chess) will be a fun and relatively easy way to revitalize their marriage. Unfortunately, the decision to cast Alan Rosenberg to play Johnny proves disastrous -- Rosenberg is incredibly difficult to work with and Pressman's already tense relationship becomes steadily worse as the horrific rehearsal and filming process intensifies. The situation looks bleak when, after a devastating preview, Pressman is forced to shut down the play, relinquish his investment, and possibly lose his wife. Of course, the aggrieved director has one option: to take over the role of Johnny. The stakes have never been higher for the married couple, considering their future together appears to hinge on the final outcome of the film. Frankie and Johnny Are Married was directed in real life by the protagonist, Michael Pressman. ~ Tracie Cooper, Rovi

This is a great movie for Hollywood insiders or anyone with an interest in the lives of these people. The most interesting thing about this film is that it uses the actor/directors real names tho, especially in the case of Alan Rosenberg and Mandy Patankin, I don't think or hope anyway that it reflects their true personalities. If that is truly the case, then those actors are real good sports, since their personas in the film is less than flattering. It give outsiders (people not in the business) a peek at the inner workings of the TV and the live theater.....the work and money that it takes and the stress involved of pulling off a successful production as well as the toll it takes on these people's private relationships. I think if you ever lived in an "industry city" .....LA or New York, you will enjoy this film.

A must-see for actors (particularly those who reside in L.A.) and probably a lot of fun for the garden-variety, sophisticated moviegoer, FRANKIE & JOHNNY ARE MARRIED is a fictionalized reconstruction by director Michael Pressman of the time some years back when he & his wife decided to "put on a show." And what a show it is: telling, hilarious, full of charm, insight & surprise that finally lifts off into the stratosphere. I'm having trouble recalling a more insightful movie about legitimate theatre & the theatrical process that actors, directors, stage managers & producers go through in order to create (in this case a production of Terence McNally's play "Frankie & Johnny at the Clair de Lune"). That the film includes some pointed & believable scenes of family life and offers a few terrifically dry/funny cameos from big-time TV people should give you even more reason to watch. This one barely received a theatrical release, which may be why you haven't heard of it. Don't pass it up.

I'M NOT IN SHOW BIZ BUT I HAVE FAMILY WHO ARE. I LOVED THIS PICTURE AND FELT AS IF I WERE A FLY ON THE WALL EAVESDROPPING ON REAL LIFE SITUATIONS. I REALLY LOVED THE FILM AND HAVE RECOMMENDED IT HIGHLY TO MY ACTOR RELATIVES. I THINK THEY'D GET A REAL KICK OUT OF IT. WELL DONE!
