Long a cultural fixture of New York's Greenwich Village, Shopsin's is explored in this documentary feature from music video director and filmmaker Matt Mahurin (1996's Mugshot). Facing the prospect of shutting down after years as one of the area's best-loved restaurants, owners Eve and Kenny Shopsin reflect on the eatery's beginnings and history. Along with demonstrating some of Shopsin's specialties in the kitchen, the eccentric Kenny waxes philosophically about love, life, politics, and everything in between. So much to learn from and enjoy in this little 1 hr 20min documentary. We meet the Shopsin family that runs a small restaurant in Greenwich Village and has been doing so for 35 yrs. The owner Kenny Shopsin is a bit of a philosopher and a larger than life character who can cook over 400 dishes all of his own design. It would be a priviledge to get thrown out of Shopsin's with a big "get the F out of restaurant" from Kenny. LMAO - Wonderful!

A fun look at a cranky and unintentionally hilarious restaurant owner/chef. His family was interesting as well. This doc chronicles their many years running their cramped neighborhood space, and their recent (improved?) move.

One of the best food docs ever. I've been there and ate like a King. Best creative food you will ever eat in New York.
