The woman who played the lead did a great job. Not an easy role at all. BillyBob was his usual self who really got into the character. He blended well with the others too. The movie is for people who appreciate good acting. Its more a film than a movie. SO sit back and take it all in. Otherwise , don't watch it if you are impatient, cause its not a fast moving movie.

I personally love character movies. I loved the way these characters came to life on screen. Billy Bob Thorton is great in this movie as an ex-con looking to make things right. Lisa Blount did a excellent job portraying a woman with alot of pain, rent it just to hear her sing a very, very beautiful song. Plus, any movie with Harry Dean Stanton is usually intersting.

Over all I would give Chrystal somewhere between a C+ & B-. The story line was a little thin for me because I was not able to "buy" the twenty year time span. However, I give McKinnon, Thornton, & Blount high marks for accurately portraying certain aspects of the southern culture - Kudos to McKinnon for another great job directing.
