This film is not only a revealing glimpse into the workings of the O.S.S. (Office of Strategic Services) during WW II, but it is also a full-fledged spy thriller.     This is not one of Cagney's best, but it is certainly good viewing (if you like old movies). It has intrigue and action and some surprises in casting for small bit parts (look for Karl Malden, E G Marshall, Sam Jaffe, and Red Buttons). A good lazy Sunday afternoon movie.

    13 Rue Madeleine is a WWII spy thriller. The movie is in black and white and had an excellent transfer to the DVD format. The movie is much better than the preview which appears on many of the WWII DVD's. James Cagney is supported by an excellent cast including Richard Conte and Annabella. The Blockbuster description of the film is slightly incorrect. The identity of the German traitor is know from the very beginnings of the movie. Part of the plot is feeding this enemy agent misinformation about possible dates and sites of the invasion of Europe. The picture moves at a fast pace from Washington D C to London to France and is super for a 1940's thriller.
