A pair of naïve young girls learn that even the most insignificant actions can have lasting consequences in this music-driven take on teen culture starring Anne Hathaway and Bijou Phillips and directed by two-time Oscar-winning filmmaker Barbara Kopple. Influenced by the hip-hop thug lifestyle and seeking to explore life outside of their insulated, culturally homogenized suburb, pretty young teenagers Allison (Hathaway) and Emily (Phillips) set their sights on East L.A. to experience the "gangsta" lifestyle firsthand. By the time the pair meet some true-life Latino gang-bangers and realize just how far out of their element they really are, it may already be too late to turn back. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

dont listen to these other reviews, it was a really cool movie and yes the white kids trying to be gangsta made alot of it seem very comedyish the story was pretty cool and some of the scenes were very intense. Its a movie about one type of people basically going to the other side of the tracks so to speak and seeing how different the world is to a lower class ( financially ) of people live. Anyway I strongly reccomend this movie and of course getting to see anne and bijou nude was a great bonus....

The idea of some suburban kids trying to fit into thug culture was interesting, but sometimes poorly executed - Anne Hathaway singing was corny. However, if you think her and Bijou Phillips are attractive, you will be rewarded.

I thought this was an interesting film. As a parent, I've got to admit that it held my attention. I haven't seen any other movies with Anne Hathaway but I think she did a good job of portraying the lead character in this movie. The ending was a bit confusing but, overall, I think this was the film equivalent of Green Day's "Jesus of Suburbia".
